What do you think Bill Gates, Oprah Winfrey, Hugh Hefner and Steve Jobs have in common with Brian who runs the shawarma shop on Somerset Street and Caroline who owns that small boutique on Bank Street? Well they are all entrepreneurs – people who have had great ideas and taken some risk, but also a lot of initiative to build their own business.
Being an entrepreneur is rewarding; you can be your own boss, set your own hours, hire who you want, and see real results from your efforts. However you need to have a good plan and be aware of things like financing, your competitors, pricing, legal issues and sales & marketing.
OCH has started an entrepreneur program that will help youth capture ideas and turn them into real businesses. We will have a series of workshops, business planning sessions and a process to match youth with mentors who have firsthand knowledge of how businesses work.
