Breakfast on the Rideau 2019

Thank you to everyone who came out to this year’s sold out Breakfast on the Rideau. Your support is incredibly important to the homeless youth in our city. Guest speaker Frank O’Dea spoke about living on the street as a youth, addicted to alcohol and not caring about the next day. He also spoke about founding the Second Cup coffee chain, becoming a millionaire, and the philanthropy that arose as a result.

We were honoured that Amanda chose to share her story, from homeless youth using OCH’s services to peer support worker at OCH today.

A big thank you is owed to our terrific speakers also. Emcee and board member Graham Bird, Board Chair Dana Reynolds, and Executive Director Elspeth McKay.

The food was amazing, thanks to social enterprise FoodWorks. Chef Bruce, Brad, Shlomo, and the youth worked endless hours over the past week to feed more than 300 guests, and they did an amazing job!

It’s incredible to watch the effort that goes into an event like this. The staff and the volunteers from the Rotary Club all deserve a huge pat on the back for volunteering their time to ensure coffee was plentiful, juice glasses were always full, and the food was served quickly and fresh. Great job everyone!

And finally, a huge thank you to our sponsors! You made this event a success, and made a huge difference in the lives of so many at-risk youth here in Ottawa.
