Volunteer Week spotlight: Sylvie Begin, RE/MAXimum Compassion

The RE/MAX offices in Ottawa have been very good to Operation Come Home, and many people who work there talk about OCH to each other and to their neighbours. Few of them get as involved as Sylvie, who has signed up to volunteer with us in the drop-in! These are her words:

“I heard about Operation Come Home (OCH) through a co-worker while attending an office dinner. She talked about OCH and their programs and I was interested to learn more. I’m a mother of teenagers and used to be a sports coach so I feel very comfortable working with youth. I’m just starting out as a volunteer but I like the services and opportunities that the Drop-in has to offer. The idea that some people sleep outside is unthinkable to me – it’s heartbreaking. Volunteering has balanced my life as I realize how lucky I am that I am healthy. It’s one of the greatest joys of life that a gesture as small as a hug or listening can make a difference. I look forward to continue to encourage my friends and family to do the same as I believe in bringing community together and supporting others where they’re at.”
